Mahler 9
Gustav Mahler's Ninth Symphony (1908 - 1909) is anything but an average work of art. His lifelong experimentation with tonality and form within the symphony genre achieves a tonal language in this composition that reaches beyond the limits of tangible emotions. The constant contrasts of hope versus despair and life versus death make the listener sympathise with the composer, who struggled with unbearable suffering in his last years of life. Is this Mahler's eternal 'goodbye' to the world? Prior to this programme, the orchestra performs the world creation of Yngwie Janseghers' brand new commissioned composition, based on Mahler's thematic material from this symphony as inspiration.
